The gay marriage bill has been voted down today in Albany.
I've always been an advocate for gay rights, and this saddens me deeply so I can't imagine the hurt and anger in the LGBT communities all over not just our state, but the neighboring states that were hoping for us to pass this and set the bar for everyone else.

What more needs to be done to get everyone equal rights in our state? It's ridiculous that this is even an issue!

I'm sorry to share the bad news but I figured some of you may have been interested to know and perhaps didn't hear yet.

Where may one be able to find the best bagels in downtown/Allentown in Buffalo?

I am not talking about Spot, Tim Horton's, or Dunkin Donuts bagels. I'm talking about real yummy delicious bagels that are fresh and have never been frozen.

I recently found out about the Au Bon Pain in the Doubletree Hotel on High Street across the street from Buffalo General Hospital. I'm looking for bagels that are as delicious as those.

Getting to Wegman's, Manhattan Bagels, or Bagel Jay's is a pain in my ass and basically impossible for me.

Are there any delis or bakeries downtown that have good bagels?

Hey dorks, I need some help here. My office if looking for a place for our Holiday party. We were originally looking at The Chocolate Bar, but they don't allow parties on Friday or Saturday night (LAME!) Anyway, #1 I live in Hamburg and #2 I am pretty much a homebody, so I know nothing about the restaurant/bar scene. I am looking for an elegant yet casual place in the downtown area (Buffalo). Meaning I don't want a rowdy bar, but nothing where a suit is required. Something in the middle, business casual dress atmosphere maybe. All of the people going are young so no place stuffy. I am defiantly looking for somewhere with a bar, but also not a place that is "just" a bar. Ok, if all of that makes sense I would REALLY appreciate your help.

THANKS :)

As I was enjoying my strawberry coolatta in your establishment, I noticed the overhead music kept changing constantly. I don't think I heard an entire song in the hour that I spent enjoying your free wi-fi. It'd be better if you kept it on one station, the employees told us that they had no control over it.

Does anyone have any suggestions for private guitar instructors in Buffalo? There are tons of people out there and I don't know how to choose. My interest in learning is to be able to learn and play songs that I love and that's really it. They don't necessarily need to have any credentials or work for a music school, just someone who is good at what they do. I have an acoustic guitar and I am mostly interested in rock/folk/bluesy kind of music. Thanks!

This week, we've got a new EI to celebrate the spirit of Xmas! Like many of our holiday EI treats Noel's Gift will be evolving at a rapid pace throughout the month of December, with new poses added every week. We've also got updates to the Hidden Ace, Case of Pietro and Seracila Pendant this week. Enjoy!

You can grab all these items now in the Gaia Cash Shop-- don't miss your chance at a first-generation Noel's Gift!

Get Your Evolving Items Now!

Get Gaia Cash cards at Target, 7-11, Rite Aid and Wal-Mart stores nationwide, or order Cash online. Learn more.

Read on for a message from Timmy, now hobo-free and ready to resume his spirit quest.

Timmy: Hiya, friends! As you can plainly see, I got rid of that ol' hobo-tramp that's been hangin' around me lately-- and as if that's not great enough news, I also got a care package from the Doc! I haven't heard from her in a while, but I'm guessin' she missed me due to the holidays and whatnot... I know she hasn't always been too nice to me, but deep down I know she cares!

Whaddaya say I open this thing up and see what she sent? Oh-- there's a letter taped to the top. Maybe I should read this first...

</span>
Quote:
Dear Timmy,

I know you're excited about opening this box, but remember to talk about the evolving items first! After all, that's why the nice people of the world are watching you this evening-- trust me, it's not because of your leading-man looks.

Oh, you know I'm just teasing you, little buddy. Anyway, let's talk items! I'm sure you heard that there's a new one this week: Noel's Gift, a holiday-themed delight that's set to evolve every week in December. I'm sure you're reacting to this news with one of your adorable little expletives, like "Jeepers!" or "Lords-a-Leapin'!"

Furthermore, we've got two great items evolving. All the compulsive gamblers out there will be twitching from the sheer force of their addiction, because the Hidden Ace is getting some magical new poses! There's also further developments in the mysterious Case of Pietro... I can't wait to see what evidence emerges! Last of all, we've got a lovely update to the Seracila Pendant-- beautiful, isn't it?

And now, on to the contents of this package: Timmy, my annual turkey feast just wasn't the same without you here! I always get so drowsy from gorging myself on birdmeat, and I guess I took for granted what a little trooper you are about doing the dishes.

So, to give you a little taste of home during your arduous journey, I've included all the dirty dishes from my Thanksgiving feast. I hope you'll be a little darling and wash them all and send them back in a timely manner-- I need them before Xmas Eve so I can use them for my holiday feast!

I know I haven't been paying you your normal salary during your little vacation, but I trust you'll still be able to pay the postage.

Ciao,
Dr. Singh

Timmy: Oh... hey... it's dirty dishes. Thanks, Doc. I was kinda hopin' maybe she sent me some warm clothes or cookies or somethin' like that, but maybe I can scrape some of the pie residue off one of these plates... well, anywho, that's about it for this week! Don't forget to vote in our poll, and be sure to come back next week for more great items. Bye bye!

As you may or may not know the night before thanksgiving is my favorite night to go out to Oswego. So I collected some pals and we headed out around 9:30.

Earlier than we usually go but I wanted to make a night of it. I had a stiff gin and tonic even before I left my house so I wouldn't need to spend too much out at the bar (I'm pretty poor lately) I ended up getting too drunk, to the point I don't remember anything after the moment I got out of my friends car. I don't even know what we talked about on the drive home.

I found an English muffin with peanut butter on the floor by my bed the next afternoon. I slept all of thanksgiving away, awesome, not. I let my parents and gram down but my gram just thought I was sick. I think I know my limits but I really don't, sometimes. This only happens rarely. and when it does I hate myself. I'm usually pretty on top of what I can have and whatnot. I just thought I was invincible. ha.

Anyway around 5:30 I got up and showered and headed to Tim's families turkey day, I usually spend my day at my place then go to his aunt and uncles for desert. But, seeing I hadn't eaten anything at my house I had dinner there and I'm thankful for that.
It's so interesting to see the side dishes that different families make, theirs were superb, but I would have loved my families added to the mix. They had garlic and cheese mashed taters with spinach, a broccoli casserole with croutons on top, some regular taters and gravy (which I passed up because I'm not a fan of gravy and the cheesy taters were perfect!

We ended up giving Tim's parents a ride home because they had a little too much.

After that fun time, Tim and I headed out into the night to grab a sheet set for his bed, the sheet he had kept falling off and the sheet grabber things we had were broke! So it was about time, he was fed up. We headed to wal mart (oh joy) where we witnessed crazy shoppers at 12:30am who were waiting there with their full carts or next to the wrapped items that said "not to be sold until 5am." ahahaha it was wild. He ended up getting a really nice pillow and I got a heating blanket that was totally on a super sale! We were quickly out of there, that's for sure. (His bed is super awesome now with all those additions. (not to mention his dark red down comforter matches the sheets so with that and the white down comforter it looks awesome!

ahhh crap! I just got an email saying my paid account has expired. Apparently last thanksgiving I had enough money to pay for things like that. I think that will have to wait until I graduate and probably land a decent job. I cant keep throwing money out like I tend to! Even though LJ is important to me, ha.

I hope everyone's holiday was great!

I got these when Dreamcatchers were the fad. Found it while looking for some nail polish in a drawer. I think I was around 12 at a firework store ha ha! You know, I used them once and it worked! You tell the doll what your worry is, put it under the pillow and sleep. The next day your anxiety will be gone.

Off to seeing families tomorrow! I'm contributing salad at my aunt's house. Then back to work Friday.

Hey Dorks,

I have been blindsided by my boyfriends confession to me last night, I found out that he has taken a liking to amphetamines (not meth, but the "smart drugs" ritalin, adderall, concerta, etc) and has been doing these things for two years behind my back. He had been up to 40mg xr at least 4 times a week. He may also have taken my pills, as I do have ADD and take my pills for a reason. I have since locked up my meds after noticing them disappear through the summer months.

Yes he is now currently the "ex," but I do still love him through this fiery hatred I am currently experiencing, and I know he needs to get help. Heres the question - are there any good programs for drugs of this type in the Buffalo area? He never really did anything other than lsd, marijuana, and hydrocodone. Only...on top of having a horrendous drinking problem. I am an idiot. Really.

It feels like a huge kick in the stomach. If I leave, hes going to go on a binge and possibly put his life in danger. This is such a shitty situation. You think youre dating someone, and they turn to be someone completely different.

Also any information you guys could give me with the vet you go to near the downtown area and the price for regular shots, checkups, etc would be great too!

I wanted to apologize for the frustration and anger caused by the tobacco item removal. We've read through the feedback and concerns from all of you, and we wanted to let you know about some changes:

•Tobacco items are back in shops.
•The items are no longer soulbound.
•If you sold yours to the shops, we're granting them back.

The motivation to ban tobacco items did not come from wanting to take away items, but from a desire to do something positive. Obviously we did a lousy job explaining the motivation, and our decision to act was awfully hasty. The end result was that we did not take the core values of you, the Gaia user, into consideration.

I'm sorry that we messed up, so in return we're undoing this as best we can. In the future we'll be more cautious and open regarding any actions that might impact any of you in a negative way.

-Lanzer

Hello, dorks! My boyfriend and I are looking into buying a house. We have our eye on one in Tonawanda, specifically. I was wondering if any of you had any experience with applying for grants to help with the down payment and closing costs. We will be able to afford the mortgage without any problems, but coming up with the down payment is going to be basically impossible. I am aware that in some cases the part that one is unable to pay can be added to the mortgage costs, but we'd rather not do that. Especially if we qualify for grants. I've found a couple that we qualify for which is cool. Basically I'm looking for your insight. Who has been through this before? What should we, and what should we NOT, be doing here?

Thanks in advance!

I'm looking for a room mate! Located directly across the street from Wegman's on Amherst, this 1,200 sq foot apartment has an attic workshop, huge back yard with three garden beds and a fire pit, access to Elmwood, Buffstate, the park system, Hertal, Grant and more! Got a great landlord, good neighbors, reasonably quiet neighborhood (you can hear crickets at night in the summer) and the house is in good shape.

Rent for you would be around 300 + half the utilities (gas $55 a month, elec $30 cable $2.50, internet $15 if you have a router, land line phone access optional) Helping with chores is expected, but I'm not hugely anal, if you wish to take chores up as part of rent, that can be negotiated.

420 friendly, not so much with the tobacco smoke. I enjoy throwing quiet parties on a regular basis, nothing that gets near out of hand. I've got a cat, might be getting a second, don't know if I want a third at this time. Next summer I'm going to be taking advantage of the new chicken laws and raising a small flock in the spacious back yard. NO dogs, sorry, dogs and I don't get long, other pets can be discussed. This house is really something else, I've put a lot of work into it and it's really a sight to behold, living here is always exciting.

Me: I'm an artist and a man of leisure. I've got a steady income, and a lot of free time. I'm a foodie and make excellent meals. I dance with fire, make giant puppets, my house IS my art, a constant project of enviromental design. I hunt mushrooms and spend a lot of the summer either in my garden or foraging around the city or elsewhere. I'm big about community, friends and neighbors are always a priority. I'm a regular at the Nickle City Co-oP's and spend at least an evening or two there a week. Not a bar person, don't really go to them at all, I'd prefer to have a few close friends over for conversation and drinking then have to fight over the noise to be heard. Anyways my homebrew is better then what most places serve. I watch a bit of TV, don't really play videogames, not at all into sports. I don't always think of things like closing the door when changing, so if casual nudity freaks you out that bad... I think I'm a pretty awesome person, I've got a lot of hobbies and studies, I'm in the process of building a circus, I live a charmed existence full of excitement and adventure, there's a lot of new stuff a foot in my world, and a lot of opportunities you may have never thought of.

You: Needs proof of a steady income. I'd prefer someone who reads a lot, who can hold conversations on more then just TV and gossip. I like people who create. Doesn't matter what it is, food, art, landscapes, manuscripts, illusions, as long as they are bringing new things into the world. No bigots and probably best if your not an evangelical, got no grudge against any religion, just as long as you dig it's a personal thing. Not at all against intoxication as long as you can handle your self, I'm not a fan of the sloppy drunks or junkies. Bicycle is a big plus, so is a car, there's decent parking in the area if you have one. I do expect my house mate to keep in touch, if they're going to disappear for a week, dropping me a line is polite, I tend to care/worry about people I'm around, and feel it's common courtesy to let those you live with know you're alive.

A friend of mine took a series of photographs at my house a year ago and posted them to Facebook, I don't know if you need to be his friend to see them, but you can try anyways, Something's going on here...but what? I think it's a pretty good slice of the house here.

My ex is finally leaving, I can hardly wait, but I'm a bit apprehensive as I've had a lot of problem room mates over the years, like "sorry I've been gone for two weeks, I might be an accessory to murder and the mob has been hiding me from the feds" or "So when we noticed those questionable porn sites that you deny looking at, and then Googled your name, we found the courts have told you you're not allowed to use computers, care to explain your self?" So I'll be doing interviews and asking a lot of questions.

If this sounds at all interesting, please drop me a note on MY LiveJournal, email me at Potter DOT Dee AT Gmail, or call directly at 875.0791, make sure to leave a message. The room will be open in early December. I've got open availability, so give me a call and come over any time, check out the place and we can talk about things.

I've never had to do this on my own before. My big fear, of course, is that I'm going to go in someplace and they're going to tell me that "xyz" needs to be fixed and it's going to cost $more-money-than-I-can-afford (which is pretty much any amount). Does anyone know of a good place to get a car inspected where they won't screw you over or make up stuff that needs to be fixed prior to giving your car the all clear? My car's only worth about $1,000 in the Kelly Blue Book, and that's if it's in prime condition (which mine is not). Needless to say I definitely do not want to end up in a situation where I dump money into the car because it really just isn't worth it. So finding someone to do a fair inspection would be great!

Thanks for the help :-)

I visit Mighty Taco's drive-thru maybe twice a month, more or less. It seems like lately they have given into the corporate archetype of attempting to up-sell their customers. Has anyone else noticed this? I find it severely annoying that after every item I order the employees try to up-sell me with jalapenos, peppers, onions, guacamole, sour cream, etc. Even when I order one item and then say the next item right after, I am interrupted by the employee with an up-sell for the first item. This is highly annoying because usually I am ordering for my whole family and it makes me lose track of my thoughts and what I had to order. I mean up-selling at the end of the sale is fine, I can deal with being asked if I want a drink or a dessert, but interrupting a customer during the order to up-sell after every.single.item is ridiculously annoying and in my opinion rude.

Don't get me wrong, I know the employees are just following the procedures handed to them by this new store policy (and I'm sure the employees hate doing it as much as I hate hearing it), but this honestly makes me want to stop going there.

Does anyone know where I can get essential oils? I'm going to be making homemade soaps, face scrubs, lip balms, etc for Christmas gifts and need to know where I can get the essential oils. Also if you know where I can get some good containers that'd be a plus. I have containers for lip balm but not the other stuff.

TIA!

Poor Simon is blockedThe weekend was fun! Watched The Fourth Kind with [info]neonlexicon at Easton, it's creepy because they keep saying the interviews are real. However after reading online, I believe it's fake. I HOPE IT'S FAKE! *shudders* Watched Thirst, a interesting Korean movie about a priest who becomes a vampire, minus the fangs.

It's a fun game so far. I haven't got online yet. I'm a bit disappointed at the lack of character customization. Is it a set back from the DS itself? Or did the Sega developers didn't want to go that deep?

PET UPDATE

Ted: Adorables

Taco: Ate her first fuzzy; I was nervous the whole time. D: Plus she's as long as her 10 gallon tank now! I bought her 20 gallon and will probably set her up in it in a week or two. Haven't decided. Also she pooped on me again. XD

Bumper Car: I caught him full out flaring for the first time ever! XDDD He's such a shy little guy. He has this new annoying habit though of asking for dinner and then when I put the food in he zooms to the bottom and pretends he's asleep. Argh!

Scarlet: ...Not well. :( He's super bloated/constipated and discolored where he's bloated. He's still kicking though and I'm holding out hope. He refused to eat a pea last night (helps betta constipation) but I'm going to try again tonight. He is two years old so I'm super worried that his chances of recovery aren't good. :( But he's always been a bruiser and I'm hoping that helps.

Joben: Pier's new addition! Super adorable fancy mouse. White with soft brown spots. He was up for adoption at petsmart because he had to be separated from the other mice for fighting! He's got a torn ear but it gives him character. There's the possibility we'll have joint custody of him. :P

END UPDATE

My ex; I've decided that I don't love you still. I just loved the idea of you, the feeling of the memories we had, and I wish I had them... but not with you.

My husband; You are not a husband. You promised you would take care of me the moment we met, because I felt so broken. You haven't kept that promise, or ANY promise at all. I had faith in you and gave you endless chances ever since we met, and I decided that I am finally done. I feel as if I am abusing myself by leaning on someone who is all talk and no action, in any aspect of your life. I loved you, I wanted our relationship to work. I loved you enough to marry you and have your child. I built my life upon love, and now I finally learned that I have to be independent. I can't change you since that is a choice you have to make yourself, and you haven't wanted to for me enough. You said I am the best thing that happened in your life... I know that I am, and you don't act like I am. I do not regret my son. He is my life. I can't believe in anything you say anymore. I can't stay with someone who is poisoning my emotions and brain and soul. You use me, and disrespect me. I can't stand it anymore. Making love is awkward, and I feel like we do it once a month just to do it. I can't say I'm in love with you anymore. I don't know what to do...

All I know is, I live for me and my son. I will build my own life with him if I have to. Love comes last now. I'm done with love. It's tiring and I've used 100% of my effort to put into love, and now love is pointless.
I want to see what you will do to make it work. I want you to prove to me that your promises will not be half-assed, and only kept for a week until you transition back to your annoying ways. I don't believe it'll happen.
You made me believe that I can't believe in anyone ever again.

Hello everyone!

I'm looking for a vacuum cleaner repair service. I think that I just need to replace the belt and I do have one on the way. However, if that doesn't fix it than I would like to take it somewhere to be looked at.

Somewhere in North Buffalo preferable. :)

If you have an idea of pricing that would be awesome as well. The vacuum cleaner was not cheap so it probably wouldn't be worth it to just replace it but I don't want to spend $200 in repairs either.

TIA Dorks!

I REALLY need to vacuum my apartment. haha

Stay tuned for the full report, in which Old Pete attempts to take over the program...

Timmy:
Hiya, folks! Welcome to the Evolving Item Report... as you can see, Old Pete has still been refusin' to leave. That just goes to show you, ladies an' gentleman: never talk to weird ol' filthy guys on the street, cause you never know how long they're gonna follow you around. Isn't that right, you rascally ol' nuisance?

Old Pete: Skin done grewn over my robe.

Timmy:
That's great, Pete. Anywho, I think me and Pete came to some kinda agreement: he'll leave if I let him take over the show this week. I guess he's been harborin' a secret desire to be famous this whole time.

Old Pete: Hrmph. Just wanna be adored by my public.

Timmy:
Basically, I'm gonna give you the real info, then I'm gonna let Old Pete take over and say whatever the heck he wants, I guess. So, here goes: we've got one item evolvin' this week, but it's a real cool one-- the Dappy Dandy has some excellent new stuff for all you fashionable types out there! Maybe you should invest in one of these and get yerself cleaned up a little, Pete.

Old Pete: My turn yet? Famous time.

Timmy:
Wait! Not quite! First I gotta tell everyone about our weekly EI poll, where you can let us know which items you like the best. So, Pete, now's your time to step into the spotlight...

Old Pete: Hrmph, ladies and gangle! Got 'em evolin' fellas gonna happen this week, and I'm a host. Old Pete gonna host this baby. I'm on TV. And this is my sidekick, Dr. Sink. Ain't that right, uh, Dr. Sink?

Timmy:
That's right, Pete!

Old Pete: Say it high! Say 'er high like a lady!

Timmy:
Uh... that's right, Pete!

Old Pete: Thanks, Dr. Sink. Now let's get them fellas evolved. This week, got four items got 'em new pose happenin': first, strange new tides for Gary's Island Adventure! Looks, uh, looks like Gary got hisself a new pair of coconut pants and a sea bird peckin' on his face.

Timmy:
Say, Pete, that's, uh, that's not a real item...

Old Pete: Shut yer damn face, Dr. Sink! Gary's Island Adventure. And, hrmph, looks like... got lots of new posin' and voguein' on the... Dark Chef. Chef gettin' even darker this week, got us a new bloody spatula and a cut-off hand stickin' out the... what you call it... that meat grinder.

Timmy:
That, uh, yeah, that sounds great, Pete! Tell us more.

Old Pete: Next, big new painting stuff in the Philosopher's Portrait. When you look at the painting, it stares back into your soul, Dr. Sink! This week, our philosopher is the classical orator Bophucles, who invented, uh, the concept of thinking.

Timmy:
Well, looks like we're just about out of time, Pete, so maybe you should start wrappin' it--

Old Pete: No! Gotta have more items! So, uh, last thing today got the Martyrdom of Saint Eustace-- this week got Eustace stuck in a big metal cask shaped like a bull, and they prepare to light some big fires up under him! Will his god save him in time, Dr. Sink, or he gonna get martyred to death? Find out!

Timmy:
Uh, I guess the fake item is called "martyrdom," so probably he's gonna--

Old Pete: FIND OUT!!!! OK, show's over! Goodnight Dr. Sink! Now I'm famous and you're my wife.

Timmy:
Uh....

Get to know beloved Gaia artists L0cke and jenzee in a live interview broadcasting today at 4pm PST. They'll be answering questions from inquisitive Gaians about all sorts of stuff: their influences, their favorite work for Gaia, their secret power animals, and more. Head over to the official thread to check it out!

In an effort to keep your virtual lungs lookin' clean as a whistle, we're ceasing the sale of tobacco-related items on Gaia. Aside from being all gross and unhealthy in real life, we don't think they make your avatar look any sexier.

If you have any pipes, cigarettes, or cigars in your inventory, you're welcome to sell 'em back to the shops for a nice, tidy profit.

Mirai: OMG! We've got some big, big, big news!

Barrett: That's right, Mirai. Phin Phang--

Mirai: Is having its first-ever sale! Tell them about it, Barrett!

Barrett: Everything will be half price, including all fish, backgrounds, terrains, decorations, and stickers. There's never been a better time to buy a Watermeat, snag some Mini-Monster packs, or simply redecorate your tank.

Mirai: But it's this weekend only, from the 20th to the 22nd. If we ran it any longer we'd go broke and Barrett would have to go back to his old job at the Hot Dog Hut.

Barrett: Mirai! I asked you to never mention that.

Mirai: Shhh, it's okay, Barrett. No one will ever remember. Anyway, be sure to stop by Phin Phang this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to stock up on great Aquarium goodies at a super-discounted price. See you there!
